Map pool changes
The recently released Patch 1.22 contained some new maps for the Battle.net ladder. We took a closer look at them in the past few weeks and some of them are very promising, but not all of them seem to be perfectly balanced. Still, we decided to make a change to our map pool.
This means that we add two new maps to our official map pool: Ancient Isles and Melting Valley. Ancient Isles has already successfully been tested in the WC3L XIV Qualification. Melting Valley is a result of the Blizzard Mapcontest and is - in our opinion - the best addition to the Battle.net pool. Hopefully both maps will bring some fresh air and new strategies to the upcoming WC3L Season.

When adding the new maps we thought about removing one or two maps, too. But we decided to keep all 'old' maps in the pool, because all of them have a long history in competitive gaming and a removal would have a too deep impact on balancing when it comes to mapvetos. The solution is, to use the map pool with nine maps for at least one season. After that we may remove some maps based on the player's 'map-usage'.

Changes take effect immediately, so the pool will be used in WC3L XIV!

Good change, glad WC3L is picking up on new maps. AI is unique and MV is already used by 2 diff tournaments and quite likeable. Wonder how 9 maps as opposed to 7 will work out. An experiment.

i think MV is a good choice, but Ai seems to imba...only nightelf-mirrors or nightelf vs. Ud and human no chance with 1.22

Tidewater Glades hasn't been added as Lighting Shield drops on it a lot and the Merc camp got abused in PGL quite often. Centaur Grove has mercs with Healing Wards and doesn't seem to be a very good map overall. RtS has "strange" creeps all around.

Pretty much all ESL WC3 Pro-Tournaments will be using this mappool for one season.

Awesome! :) I like watching games on new maps, and I think MV will enable some new strategies to be played.

Will the new maps be used in other leagues? Like EAS or PL?

Furthermore i think the changes are ok - because MV is a new Orc/Human map and AI seems to be the new hope for all UD´s out there.

This is wrong.
UDs / NEs have to remove LT vs ORC/HU.
The other way round, Hu/Orc do not always remove TM.

How? The map that gets vetoed the most gets removed? The map that gets picked least although it wasn't vetoed? What will be the criteria?

Are you talking about the bandit lord with devine shield and chaos damage? Well to me new creeps are something good. Who wants the same gnolls/trolls/ogres on every spot?
